With her mother's diary in hand, eighteen-year-old Marina travels to the west coast of Spain to the places where her parents, whom she has never known, once fell in love. Before she has time to navigate the sea of unfamiliar relatives, secrets begin to emerge that, even years later, burn hotter than the summer sun and salt water spray. From fragmented and often contradictory memories, Marina pieces together an unexpected picture of her mother and father's fatal, destructive love. With bittersweet tenderness and nostalgia, director Carla Simón revisits her coming-of-age at the turn of the millennium. Partly autobiographical, this story about the search for one's roots was enthusiastically received in the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
