Nineteen-year-old Ella has lived her entire life in a wheelchair. When it's time to leave home and move away for school, disappointment hits: her application for assistance services is unsuccessful, and instead of her dream apartment, she has to move into an institution. At the same time, she meets her first love... At nineteen, Ella is ready to grow up and live life on her own terms. Even though she has always been in a wheelchair, she longs for her own apartment. But when it's time to leave home and move away for school, there's a disappointment: a rejected application for assistance services means she has to start living in an institution. The dream of independence evaporates. But despite the nagging worries of bureaucracy, something new comes along, and it's her first love. Filmmaker Mari Storstein, who has teamed up with producer Thomas Robsahm (The Worst Person in the World), here draws on her own experiences of life in a wheelchair to offer viewers a rare glimpse of authenticity - her romance tells the story of a disabled heroine not from the outside, but from the inside. Warm, humorous, and emotionally mature, the film is a tender coming-of-age account that is disarming in its honesty. It captures a very universal feeling: our desire to be seen, loved and accepted as we are.
