April: what does the gallery do?

2 4 2026 | Author: Andrea Sekerešová

What's coming up in April at the Telegraph Gallery?

If you visit the Telegraph Gallery regularly, you will know that our programme goes beyond the gallery space. In addition to the long-term exhibitions, there are pop-up exhibitions in the cinema and loft throughout the year, as well as residencies by Czech and international artists, always ending with an Open Studio in their studio. You can also look forward to lecture series focusing on the work of contemporary artists, the work of curators and on contemporary art collecting with collectors, gallerists and curators.

Spring is in full swing and so is the programme at the Telegraph Gallery. The beginning of the month will feature a presentation by artist David Possible and all month long you can look forward to an exhibition of paintings from Transylvania. April will also feature Open Studio, this time by a Slovak artist known by the pseudonym Kanrec Sakul. The month will end with a guided tour and the launch of the catalogue of the exhibition Transylvanian Painting Today.

5 3 - 11 6 2026 Transylvanian Painting Today

Our spring season is dedicated to the exhibition Transylvanian Painting Today, which presents a selection of works by contemporary painters associated with the so-called Cluj School. This has resonated strongly on the international scene in recent decades. It focuses mainly on figurative painting and offers a glimpse of the specific visual poetics of the Transylvanian region, shaped by its rich cultural heritage.

9 4 2026 / 18:00 Presentation of the artist: David Možný

David Možný is one of the most prominent solitaires of the contemporary Czech visual scene and his lecture will offer a great insight into how he thinks about space and reality. During the evening, the artist will present his site-specific installations, digitally generated images and work with found objects, focusing on the ways in which his realisations disrupt the perception of space and reality. The lecture will also provide context for his current installation created specifically for Etcetera Gallery.

17 4 - 3 5 2026 Repeat After Me: Open Group

The Open Group collective brings a project to the Telegraph that works with the familiar principle of karaoke - but with the difference that instead of popular songs, it conveys the raw experience of war. Visitors are confronted with the sounds we normally tune out, and through them themes of memory or shared trauma are opened up. The project is presented by Ecological Days Olomouc with the help of The Polish Institute in Prague, Telegraph Pulse and Telegraph Gallery in conjunction with the One World International Human Rights Film Festival.

29 4 2026 / 18:00 Open Studio: Kanrec Sakul

The Slovakian artist known as Kanrec Sakul is our guest for our studio residency this April. During the Open Studio you will have a unique opportunity to look right under his hands. In his work he freely transitions between painting, drawing and object making, from which he builds imaginary worlds full of strange structures and colours. Stop by and see how his works are gradually created.

30 4 2026 / 18:00 Guided Tour and Catalogue Launch: Transylvanian Painting Today

We will end the month with a get-together at the gallery. On the last evening of April, Mira Macík, Erika Kovačičová and Jan Kudrna will guide you through the Transylvanian Painting Today exhibition. You will learn more about the background of the exhibited works and the phenomenon of the Romanian painting scene itself. The evening will also include the launch of a catalogue produced in conjunction with the exhibition.

We look forward to seeing you!
